Online Consortium of Independent Colleges & Universities (OCICU)
Gallaudet University is a member of the Online Consortium of Independent Colleges & Universities (OCICU). This online consortium enables GU to offer online courses to students who:- can't take conventional courses on campus
- need a class that is not currently available at GU
OCICU courses are online courses offered by other consortium member colleges and universities whose institutions have been accredited by their regional associations to offer online courses and degrees. Offered in an accelerated format, these courses usually are eight weeks long. Students register for OCICU courses, pay tuition, and receive grades through GU just as they would any other courses at GU.
Students must have permission from their Academic Advisor and the Chairperson of the academic department of the student's major in order to register for OCICU courses. Academic Advisors and the Chairperson determine if an OCICU course is equivalent to the course a student needs for their degree program. OCICU/GU courses can be found at www.ocicu.org/studentaccess.asp by selecting Gallaudet University from the member institution drop down box. Click on each course to get more information. Note that there are different registration deadlines, term starting and ending dates and drop/withdrawal dates for OCICU courses. If the course needed is not on the GU/OCICU list, go to www.ocicu.org/courselist.asp for additional courses that may be offered by clicking on each member institution. Then contact Dr. Mary "Tammy" Weiner at mary.weiner@gallaudet.edu so that the course can be added to the courses available to GU.
In order to register for OCICU courses, a Gallaudet University/OCICU Authorization Form is required, which must be signed by the student, the student's Academic Advisor, and Department Chairperson before sending it to GU Registrar's Office.
