IMPORTANT: A credit hour is awarded on the basis of one of three sets of criteria. To meet the credit hour requirements, additional out of class hours will be required to complete these courses.

- PST 571 CRLA Tutor Training I (1 credit)
All Tutors and Language Advisors hired by TIP are required to attend PST571 CRLA Tutor Training I at no charge. This course is designed to allow tutors to earn one PST credit by completing 15 hours of course work and to work towards CRLA Level 1/ Regular certification. The course covers topics required for CRLA certification such as orientation to the TIP work place, ethics, tutoring guidelines and techniques, active listening and paraphrasing, being a role model, setting goals and planning, time management and tutoring study skills. This course has pass/fail grading. Prerequisite: Employment with TIP and permission of the department. ASL skills required. For more information on becoming a tutor, please contact the TIP Office at 202-651-5464. Class Format: Rolling enrollment. All tutors must attend several on-site workshops, participate in online activities and meet with an assigned supervisor. Workshops are offered daily and do not have to be taken in sequence. - PST 572 CRLA Tutor Training II (1 credit)
This course is designed to allow tutors to earn one PST credit by completing 15 hours of course work and to work towards CRLA Level 2/Advanced certification. The course reviews Level 1 topics and introduces techniques for working with learning disabled students, deaf/low vision and blind students; cultural awareness, and learning styles. This course has pass/fail grading. Prerequisite: Employment with TIP and permission of the department. ASL skills required. - PST 573 CRLA Tutor Training III (1 credit)
This course is designed to allow tutors to earn one PST credit by completing 15 hours of course work and to work towards CRLA Level 3/Advanced certification. This course covers topics such as assertiveness training, group tutoring and management, and structuring the learning experience. Students must complete a nine-hour individual project that focuses on workshop development, material development for students, or tutor training material. This course has pass/fail grading. Prerequisite: Employment with TIP and permission of the department. ASL skills required. - PST 748 GRE General Test Preparation (2 credits)
This course prepares students for taking the general GRE as they prepare for applying to graduate school. Students will learn the type of questions presented on the exam and learn to identify the purpose and goals of questions in order to better understand them, and test taking strategies that can also be applied to other testing situations. Review of verbal and quantitative content as well as writing will further prepare students for the GRE. Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor; contact daniel.lundberg@gallaudet.edu.
