Expressive use of the target language will be supported by real-time conferencing software and/or simple fingerspelling-based activities. This course will explore the various aspects of the biopsychosocialmodel as it relates to hearing loss withparticular emphasis on the psychological (affective, behavioral, cognitive) and social impact of hearing loss on individuals, their families, and group contexts in which they communicate. Topics covered in the course include: the grieving process and crisis as it relates to progressive andsudden onset hearing loss, parallel reactions, the range of behavioralreactions as it relates to the Assertiveness Continuum Model, as well as social and psychological impact of hearing loss. In the sequence of the Professional Coaching courses, this second online course is designed to continue individual development. Using full body presence students will explore and tap into the wisdom in the mind/body/emotion connection. The course will provide the students with skills and knowledge to incorporate mindfulness, presence, and somatic coaching practices. The course strives to create transformation learning through highly experiential components that focus on real-time coaching practice with consistent feedback and developmental plans. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive International Coach Federation coach specific training hours and be able to:
- Recognize their own mindfulness and presence.
- Identify at least 5 ways by which their presence influences their coaching.
- Be able to analyze mindfulness and presence distinctions in their coaches.
- Explain strategies for how to begin coaching mindfulness and presence in others.
- Use their own experience of transformation to explain how personal transformation occurs.
- Demonstrate their ability to reflect, notice, and self-correct their roles in coaching sessions.
- Demonstrate core coaching skills, techniques, and ICF core competencies (Section B: Co-creating the relationship: (1) Establishing trust and intimacy with the client in their coaching process and (2) coaching presence; Section D: Facilitating learning and result: (1) Creating awareness.)

They will examine family, community and school structures, patterns and relationships. Students will explore a variety of theories, concepts, principles, and models utilized when implementing effective family, school, and community partnership, in addition to collaboration among IEP team members and when working with other professionals, in regard to students and families with special and diverse needs. This online course is the fourth course in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Infants, Toddlers and Families: Collaboration and Leadership Interdisciplinary Certificate Program. The course addresses the methods, strategies and techniques for developing language, communication, cognition and literacy for infants and toddlers who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families. Candidates will acquire knowledge of assessments used to describe the strengths and needs of these children. The course emphasizes an interdisciplinary collaborative approach and the roles of related professionals (e.g., audiologists, early childhood educators, speech-language pathologists, social workers, psychologists, etc.). Strategies and resources will address the continuum of communication and language opportunities including the development of spoken English and American Sign Language. Working in a highly interactive environment, participants gain hands‐on experience in how nonprofits,state and federal agencies, and schools can develop successful grant applications for funding. This eight-week professional development/graduate level session is designed for individuals working in the nonprofit or educational sectors (i.e. program staff, university faculty and professional staff, executive directors, school administrators and program directors).
