About the Shared Reading Project

The Clerc Center's Shared Reading Project (SRP) is a nationally acclaimed program designed to teach parents and other caregivers how to read to their deaf and hard of hearing children using American Sign Language and how to use strategies to make book sharing more effective.

About the Training Program

The Shared Reading Project: Keys to Success training is a five-day program designed to prepare site coordinators to establish the SRP at their own schools, programs, local libraries, or community centers.

Participants will learn how to:

• use the 15 principles for reading to deaf and hard of hearing children;
• recruit, hire, and train deaf adults to become tutors; 
• market the SRP to families; 
• work effectively with parents, caregivers, educators, and tutors; and 
• plan, coordinate, and manage the SRP budget, operations, personal needs, and program evaluation

Participants will receive a wealth of materials, including an instructional DVD that will be useful in setting up the SRP at their respective sites. In addition, each school or program will receive one free set of 10 SRP book bags (valued at $200) to start their SRP lending library.
