Kendall Demonstration Elementary School
Model Secondary School for the Deaf
Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) are the demonstration schools of the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University.
KDES and MSSD:
- enroll deaf and hard of hearing students from infancy through high school.
- explore effective approaches to teaching and learning that the Clerc Center shares with families and professionals throughout the country.
Congress reauthorized the Education of the Deaf Act (EDA) in 2008. Under the reauthorized EDA, the Clerc Center must implement components of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). The demonstration schools will test educational strategies that help deaf and hard of hearing students meet challenging academic standards.
