Communication studies courses offered in the fall
The Department of Art, Communication, and Theatre is offering two courses in the fall that maybe be of interest and benefit to all students, regardless of major.
COM 335-Mediation, Deliberation, and Dialogue will be taught by Dr. Patricia Foley on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. TO 12:20 p.m. In addition to covering basic mediation and deliberation processes, this course will offer training in intergroup dialogue facilitation. Students who successfully complete this training have the opportunity to become student facilitators/teaching assistants in COM 235-Intergroup Dialogue. (Permission of instructor is required for registration)
COM 495-Special Topics—Contemplative Practices-Theory and Practice for Careers and Everyday Life will be taught by Dr. Patricia Foley on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3 to 4:20 p.m. This course is for everyone. It will cover the foundations, theory, and practice of the contemplative practices of mindfulness, yoga, and meditation. Research in medicine, neuroscience, and psychology all note the extremely beneficial results of contemplative practices in reducing stress, as well as increasing compassion and cooperation among people. Learn these practices and how to integrate them into your everyday life. (Permission of the instructor required)
