The month-long holiday of Ramadan is the holiest period of the Islamic year. Muslims commemorate the Qur’an being revealed to Muhammad and this is a time for prayer and spiritual cleansing which includes strict fasting each day from sunrise to sunset. On the last day of Ramadan, August 7, Muslims celebrate the "Festival of Fast-Breaking," called Eid al-Fitr.
