SHORT BIOGRAPHY Professor Tracey Salaway teaches various art and media design courses at Gallaudet University, Washington, DC. She holds MFA degree in video animation and BFA in graphic design. She has worked several graphic design firms in NYC, Port Washington, and Rochester, New York. She has produced and exhibited experimental shorts and documentary videos for festivals and exhibitions. She is currently a docent at Smithsonian American Art Museum for the American Sign Language Art Signs tour in Washington, DC. She is an interim program director for Art & Media Design program under the department of Arts and Communications Studies. She is agallery coordinator for the Jordan gallery. She curates an art exhibit called “A Vision that Smells of Soap” and this exhibition is open to all Deaf and hearing artists, utilizing their interpretations of the artistic cultural concept, including lowbrow, middlebrow, and highbrow art that included all forms of artistic expression, surreal, and imagination. She team teaches General Studies Requirement courses that associates and compares with multiple cultural perspectives, including popular culture in art and literature. She provides presentations on Deaf Arts historical and cultural topics that pushes and symbolizes a political artistic movement called “Deaf View/Image Art” (De’VIA) movement. She has produced a feature documentary film called “An American De’VIA Artist: Chuck Baird and His Journey.”
