Dr. O'Connor has taught at Gallaudet since 1972. Although she began work as an Old English scholar, she turned her attention to the English language challenges facing many Gallaudet students. She was one of the founders of the English Language Program, a division of the English Department that for more than twenty years served to provide students with the English language skills needed to succeed in college courses. She continues to work to provide those same skills to students today.

She has developed a course in Sports Literature to offer an introduction to students who share her interest in sports.
