Dr. Kachman began working in the Deaf community in 1977 where he worked as an interpreter in a middle school and later as a coordinator in a community agency that served the Deaf community.   Before coming to work at Gallaudet in 1986, he served for three years as psychologist and administrator at the Center for Unique Learners in Rockville, Maryland.   He served for ten years as the school psychologist at the Kendall Demonstration Elementary School on Gallaudet's campus and joined the MHC staff in June 1996.   In addition to serving as the associate director of the Mental Health Center, in July 2008 he became the director of Student Affairs Assessment, focusing on institutional assessment of student learning and program effectiveness for Student Affairs.   He is the founder of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children Interest Group of the National Association of School Psychologists and serves as moderator for its listserv.
