Dr. King is a professor in the Department of Education.  From 2010 to 2012, she headed the CIO Division at Gallaudet University, which was composed of the University Library and Gallaudet Technology Services.  From 1998-2007, she held positions as Executive Director of Academic Technology and from 2007-2009 as Dean of ATLAS Services (Academic Technology, Library and Archives Services).   She earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Delaware, master's degree at Western Maryland College (subsequently renamed as McDaniel College), and her doctorate from the University of Illinois. She began her career with services to deaf and hard of hearing people in 1974. She has worked as a high school teacher and was one of the nation's first K-12 interpreters. She also taught at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro for five years. She joined Gallaudet in 1987 as a faculty member in Education and has held positions of Professor, Department Chair, Executive Director, Dean, and CIO (Chief Information Officer). She received tenure in 1993 in the Department of Educational Foundations and Research. In 2012, the Department of Educational Foundations and Research was merged with the Department of Education.

Dr. King is the editor of the only reading series developed for deaf children and has many publications and presentations related to reading, deafness, and technology. Dr. King has been conducting research on computer-based media and captioning since the early 1980's. Dr. King's long-time dream of a system for online deafness-related videos was realized with publication of the Gallaudet Video Library in 2006.
