Dr. Mounty came to Gallaudet University in 1996 as the first deaf woman to hold the Powrie Vaux Doctor Chair of Deaf Studies.  She subsequently was the director of the Center for ASL Literacy (CASLL) and a research scientist with the Center for ASL and English Bilingual Education and Research (CAEBER) before assuming oversight of Field Education for the Department of Social Work in January 2011.  Prior to coming to Gallaudet, Dr. Mounty was a teacher and program administrator in several education and human service settings serving deaf and hard of hearing individuals, an instructor at Boston University, a research scientist at Educational Testing Services, and an associate professor at what is now McDaniel College.  Her publications include Assessing Deaf Adults:  Critical Issues in Testing and Evaluation (Gallauet University Press, 2005).  In addition to her work at Gallaudet, Dr. Mounty maintains a private psychotherapy practice.
