- Majors: Communication Studies & Sociology, Gallaudet University
Clara, a proud Oakland, Calif. girl, misses the "Golden State." However, being in the mecca of the Deaf community—24/7—at Gallaudet University made the 3,000 mile journey worth it. She attended a small oral program before she reached pre-kindergarten when she transferred to California School for the Deaf (CSD), Fremont and graduated as class salutatorian.
Clara had been torn between two college options—California State University at Northridge or Gallaudet University—and she remembers finally making up her mind in the middle of delivering her salutatorian address at CSD. She hasn't regretted that decision for a moment... not once. From the first day of her move-in to now, Clara truly bleeds "buff and blue."
Clara is majoring in both Communication Studies and Sociology with a concretion in Criminology. She is also minoring in English. In addition to her academic pursuits she juggles working for the Student Body Government as their Director of Community Relations, as a member of the Phi Kappa Zeta Sorority, and as a peer leader for First Year Seminar classes.
In her spare time, Clara enjoys reading, making collages, and painting. After watching Olympic gold medalist Shaun White rocking his tricks on the pipe, Clara is also learning how to snowboard!
Come and take a tour with Clara, she will show you why she loves Gallaudet University!
