Financial Aid

Online Degree Student Guide to Financial Aid

What kind of Financial Aid am I eligible for?

Financial aid program eligibility will depend on your enrollment statuses for the semester. The chart below lists all possible status of enrollment and the aid programs for which students in each category may be considered for.

How much will it cost? (Cost of Attendance)

Cost of Attendance (COA) for online students will include an allowance of $250-500 for books (depending on enrollment status). Personal, room and board expenses are not considered relevant costs associated with online study and are not included in determining COA or Financial Aid funding.

How much Pell Grant can I receive?*

Eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant is based on the results of your FAFSA and your enrollment status . Pell awards range from $0-$2775 per semester.

The Pell award amount on your FAFSA is an estimate of your Pell award for a full year, if you are full-time both semesters. Enrollment of less than 12 credits per semester will result in reduction in Pell Grant.

Online calculators can assist you with calculating your Pell award based on EFC, Cost-of-Attendance and enrollment status  for one YEAR (multiply  by 1/2 to calculate  for one semester).

            What about SEOG and Scholarships?*

Institutional funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. These funds are awarded based on financial need, academic merit, and funding availability. Students must submit both a FAFSA and IFAA to the Financial Aid Office, in order to be considered for these funds.

                        How much can I borrow?*

Loan limits are based on grade level and dependency status, as determined by the FAFSA. The chart below demonstrates the annual limit (per academic year).

Under no circumstances may your combined financial aid awards (grants, scholarships, VR and loans) exceed your Cost-of-Attendance.

How do I apply?

Follow the Application Instructions provided on this website. Students are encouraged to complete all of their financial aid applications as early as possible.

The Financial Aid Office cannot offer you any aid until you have been accepted to Gallaudet University and submitted both the FAFSA and IFAA to our office.

*This information is intended to assist applicants with estimating their financial aid eligibility. The Financial Aid Office must receive and process both the FAFSA and IFAA, before any formal determination can be made.
