The Dean of the Graduate School and Professional Program is the head of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), Professional Education Programs (PEP) Unit at Gallaudet. Working with the dean is the Executive Director for Academic Quality. [For more information, see the website for the Office of Academic Quality.] The Executive Director for Academic Quality serves as the primary resource for accreditation and certification information and guidance at Gallaudet and develops strategies to improve university processes on how to effectively engage campus personnel in accreditation and certification actions. Including in the office's responsibility is monitoring the Professional Education Programs (PEP) at Gallaudet University. These programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the dean of GSPP serves as head of the common governance structure known as the PEP Unit. All but two of these programs reside in GSPP: seven undergraduate programs in general education, the M.A. and M.A.T. in Deaf Education, the M.A. in School Counseling and Guidance, the Ed.S. in Change Leadership in Education, and the Ph.D. in Special Education Administration. The two remaining programs are the M.S.W. in School Social Work and the Psy.S. in School Psychology, both housed in CLAST. The PEP Unit has a curriculum review committee (PEP-C) as well as two long-term PEP Planning Committees that support collaboration among PEP faculty and administration, CLAST faculty in the liberal arts, and partners in P-12 school settings. These two committees focus on the critical areas of Diversity and Field Experiences, and Assessment and Technology. In addition to NCATE-accredited programs, GSPP and the graduate school offer programs accredited by the American Psychological Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, the Council on Education of the Deaf, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs, the Council on Social Work Education, the District of Columbia's State Education Agency, the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, and the National Recreation and Park Association/American Association of Leisure and Recreation Council on Accreditation. |
