Graduate School Application Information

The faculty in the program to which you apply evaluate your application and make a recommendation to the Graduate School regarding admission. The final decision is made by the Dean.  The Graduate School reserves the right to admit or deny admission whenever it believes that it has sufficient evidence to do so.

How do I apply to the Graduate School?

By far the easiest way to apply to graduate school is to fill out our online application. Your information will be saved as you go. While we prefer that you use our Online Application form, we also have a "paper and pencil" Application Booklet available. Graduate Special Students also should use this form (either online or printed) and complete the section of the form that pertains to Graduate Special Students.

Note: If you currently have access to Gallaudet's Bison system (bison.gallaudet.edu), go to "Self Service" and then to "Admissions, Create/Edit GRAD Online Apps" to reach the online application pages. All others should click the "Online Application form" link above.

• What is required to apply to the Graduate School?
  1. A completed Graduate School Application Form, including payment of the $50 non-refundable application fee.
  2. Official transcripts of all undergraduate study, including evidence of having received a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. (Those applying during their final undergraduate year will be required to submit a final transcript after completion of their bachelor's degree and before enrolling in their first semester of graduate study.)
  3. Official transcripts of all graduate study.
  4. A minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a four-point scale) in all previous undergraduate and graduate study. (Occasionally, applicants with a GPA lower than 3.0 may be admitted conditionally upon the recommendation of the department.)
  5. An application fee of $50.
  6. A completed graduate school application form.
  7. Goals statement.
  8. TOEFL scores for all international applicants.
  9. Additional application requirements by program are listed in the graduate catalog.
  10. If you are offered admission: The immunization laws for the District of Columbia require all students to provide proof of immunization. Please visit the Student Health Services website for more information.
• Where do I get more information on standardized tests?

Check out the GRE and MAT websites. In addition, the MAT is offered here on campus.  It is offered every second Thursday of each month in the Career Library at 8:00 am.  The 202-651-5240 is the correct number to call for information on the MAT.  The GRE is also administered thru the Career Center.  It is offered every six months.
