The Mary Thornberry Building, home to the Department of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences and the Hearing and Speech Center before moving to the James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center, has been demolished. The demolition was a bittersweet ending to 51 years of service to the community.
A copper box time capsule, full of mementos from the late 1950s, was found behind a cornerstone of the building. Please visit the Gallaudet University Archives exhibit area located in the basement of the Merrill Learning Center to examine the time capsule and its contents.
