Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center
The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University provides information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our mission is to improve the quality of education afforded to deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21 throughout the United States.
The Clerc Center also maintains two demonstration schools on the campus of Gallaudet University, Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD). These schools:
- enroll deaf and hard of hearing students from infancy through high school.
- explore effective approaches to teaching and learning that the Clerc Center shares with families and professionals throughout the country.
Gallaudet University Youth Programs
The University offers a number of exciting, empowering, and dynamic programs for deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing high school teenagers. Designed for youth ages 14-18, these programs provide stimulating summer experiential and learning opportunities that blend excitement, education, and enjoyment in a bilingual environment rich in cultural diversity—and located just minutes away from historic Washington, DC!
