If no application deadline date is stated, the vacancy may close at any time after the above timelines. Positions that require sign language skills at the time of application are so noted. All others require a willingness to learn and become proficient.
Suitability Background Investigation
In order to assure the safety and well-being of children on campus, Gallaudet University requires that employees, contractors, volunteers, interns, students, etc., directly involved with the provision of services to youth who are under the age of 18 or involved with financial resources must undergo a suitability background investigation. Any conviction for a sex crime, an offense involving a child victim, or a drug felony may be grounds for denying employment or assignment or for dismissal. If a candidate for employment, contract, or assignment has been charged with one of these offenses, but the case has not yet been adjudicated, employment or assignment may be delayed pending the outcome. A conviction of a crime other than a sex crime may be considered grounds for denying an appointment or contract, or for dismissal only if it bears on an individual's fitness to have responsibility for the safety and well-being of children or to otherwise carry out the functions of the position. Individuals who fail to complete the required forms for conducting a suitability background investigation within a stipulated period of time may be denied an appointment.
Candidates selected for a position are responsible for the cost of a suitability background investigation.
