Provides the leadership and supervision in the development, coordination and evaluation of all phases of the Educational Planning and Support for early childhood through high school at KDES and MSSD; supervises and evaluates KDES and MSSD IEP Coordinators, Psychologists, School Counselor, and other staff as assigned; serves as compliance officer for KDES and MSSD to ensure all student IEPs are in accordance with IDEA and EDA; leads school personnel through all aspects of the legal process related to conflicts between school and families regarding a child's educational services/FAPE; coordinates and supervises programs and activities which are designed to assist students in their personal, social and academic development and success, and ensures that students at KDES and MSSD receive support services; and manages the budget for the unit and oversees the expenditure of funds.
Master's degree from an accredited school in the area of education, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related profession. Minimum five years professional level experience in the area of IEP Services or Educational Planning including two years of experience working in a program for K-12 deaf individuals. Minimum three years of management or supervision experience in K-12 program. Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and to cultivate an atmosphere of teamwork within a unit. Evidence of successful management skills; demonstrated ability to make and follow-through with long- and short-term plans. Excellent organizational skills. Responsible for performing with a high degree of skill and autonomy. Excellent writing and communication skills. Fluency in American Sign Language is required. .
