What do I do if I become legally divorced?
Health Insurance
If your spouse has been covered under your health insurance, you need to complete a new enrollment form to remove the spouse's name from your list of family members. This needs to be done within 30 days of the final divorce. Your spouse may be eligible to continue his or her coverage under the Spouse Equity Law. If your spouse is not eligible under this law, he or she may be eligible for Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) for up to 36 months.
If you no longer need family coverage, your enrollment form should be changed from family to self-only coverage within 30 days of the final divorce.
Forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, or in the main HRS Office, room 106.
Please check Health Insurance for additional information.
University Dental Insurance
If your spouse has been covered under your dental insurance, you need to complete a change form to remove the spouse's name from your list of family members. This needs to be done within 30 days of the final divorce. Your spouse may be eligible to continue his or her coverage under COBRA.
If deleting your spouse from your dental insurance coverage reduces the number of family members covered, or if you no longer need family coverage, you may need to change your enrollment from employee plus 1 to employee only, or from employee plus 2 or more to employee plus 1.
Forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, or in the main HRS Office, room 106.
Please check University Dental Insurance for additional information.
Beneficiaries
You may change beneficiaries for life insurance, retirement and TSP at any time. These forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, or in the main HRS Office, room 106.
