About the Honors Program

Benefits of Honors

There are numerous academic benefits to participating in the Honors Program.  These are a few of them:

#1 Community

The Honors Program provides students with facilities and like-minded peers though which to form an intellectual community.  While we encourage students to develop relationship and interests beyond those of their peers in the Honors Program, the relationships that students forge with their peers in Honors will carry them throughout their undergraduate career.  These relationships have allowed students to succeed academically and socially.

#2 Challenge

The Honors Program provides students with a rigorous academic challenge that is unparalleled in the university's undergraduate courses.  This challenge allows students to develop academically and personally in a bilingual learning environment.  The academic challenges provide students complex questions to answer--questions which will lead students to a greater and more nuanced understanding of the world in which we live.

#3 Preparation

Students who complete the first two years of Honors courses will be prepared to do well in their upper-level major courses.   Students who continue into their third and fourth years and complete the Honors Capstone will be eminently prepared to apply and gain acceptance to the graduate school of their choice.  Our students have gone to numerous prestigious schools, including The George Washington University, Georgetown University, Harvard Medical School, and Sotheby's in London.

#4 Prestige

Students who graduate with General Studies Honors have special wording placed in the graduation booklet and on their diplomas.  Students who graduate with Capstone Honors also receive a special royal blue gown at graduation, a breakfast with the Provost and university administrators for the graduates and their family and friends, and a special plaque recognizing the academic accomplishment for which they are being honored.
