Charge
New program development should be considered first and foremost with an eye towards Gallaudet University’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The catalyst for new programs may come from external sources, from University leadership, or from academic departments who see an interest/need in the field or via students.
A brief proposal with information on the goals of the program and the rationale behind the new program submitted on the New Program Initiation Form to a committee made up of the following people: Chief Enrollment and Marketing Officer, Provost, Senate representative, and the appropriate Dean(s).
The New Program Feasibility Study will be reviewed by the Chief Enrollment and Marketing Officer, Provost, the University Budget Director, a Faculty Senate representative, and the appropriate Dean(s).
Interdisciplinary programs must, at a minimum, have: 1) an identifiable faculty; 2) a single director; 3) a clear reporting line; 4) a common core curriculum; 5) an independent budget, resources, and identifiable space, provided at an administrative level above the participating units. These issues should be addressed and agreed upon by all participating units during the earliest stages of the planning process.
