Good time management skills are essential to succeed in these highly interactive and learner-centered courses.  Readings, assignments and activities are posted online and students are required to log in to submit assignments electronically and participate in course discussions. Students are responsible for obtaining their own internet access and are expected to have basic computer and internet literacy.

At Gallaudet, we use Blackboard to support our online courses. The first thing you need to do is to make sure you have the right equipment.  See the minimum computing guidelines to find out what you need.  Then to gauge your online learning readiness, complete this brief Online Learning Readiness Inventory.  Your responses will help identify strengths and weaknesses for success in the online learning environment.

Grievance and Appeal Procedures
Gallaudet University is committed to excellence in teaching and learning. In keeping with the U.S. Department of Education's Program Integrity Rule, Gallaudet University is required to provide all prospective and current students with contact information of the regional accreditation agency, and the state agency or agencies that handle complaints against postsecondary education institutions offering distance learning within that state. Students are encouraged to utilize the institution's internal complaint or review policies and procedures prior to filing a complaint with the state agency or agencies.

If you are a student and believe you have grounds for a grievance, you should first make an attempt in good faith to resolve the problem through early informal discussion of the matter with the Gallaudet academic, administrative or staff member directly involved. If further recourse is needed, contact the Dean of the College in which you are enrolled.

If all internal avenues have been exhausted without resolution, you may contact The Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which is Gallaudet's regional accrediting agency.

If you are living outside of Washington, D.C. while attending Gallaudet, you can file a complaint in the state where you are residing (PDF file).
