Program Prioritization Task Force: Spring-Summer 2010 Timeline
Goal for April: Develop a process for reviewing new program proposals: i.e., criteria with enough specificity to assess the potential of the new program to contribute to GU’s value; a proposal that will structure the documentation of that criteria; a process for review (preliminary to final). If there is time, we need to do the same for Program Viability (annual red flags for review of program continuation in the future).
April 9: Conversation with CUE, CGE, Admissions, Budget director, and anyone else with vested interest in how new programs are evaluated; if time, agree on meeting times/dates for fall before people’s schedules fill up.
April 16: Review facts learned from April 9 conversation; discussion of recommendations for new program criteria, proposal format, process.
April 23: Discuss, finalize recommendations for new program criteria, proposal format, process. (When new program criteria, process, proposal is drafted, disseminate to campus for feedback.)
April 30: Begin work on developing Program Viability criteria and process (this can continue through Fall, or be finalized during April/May depending on committee feeling)
Templates due from Departments
May 7: PPTF reviews a template samples picked by co-Chairs to calibrate ratings and review process
After this, we scheduled 3 all-day meetings between May 21 and June 21. We will divide all programs into thirds and use a randomization algorithm to pick programs for each round so there’s variation – NOT evaluate in alphabetical order. For individual review, PPTF members will have a checklist of programs they are to review in that time period, and a blank spreadsheet in which to enter their 1-4 ratings. We will combine those spreadsheets and it will calculate means and standard deviations.
We review and rate 1/3rd of programs individually over two weeks; meet all-day to evaluate; rate another 1/3 over two weeks; meet all day to evaluate, then do it a final time.
May 7 – 21 Evaluate 40-60 programs independently
May 21: All day meeting to review evaluations
May 21 – June 7 Evaluate 40-60 programs independently
June 7: All day meeting to review evaluations 2
June 7 – 21 Evaluate 40-60 programs independently
June 18 or 21 All day meeting to review evaluations
June 21 – 23 3-day meeting to prioritize, rank and categorize.
After this meeting, Co-Chairs meet to finalize draft report to the Provost and President.
