Beyond the Classroom

Our department encourages and tries to facilitate an extra-curricular education, which simply means additional training outside of the classroom, in the form of internships and post-baccalaureate fellowships, also called "post-bacs." These experiences hone our student's field, research and laboratory skills and provide a taste of what it is like to work in that profession. This helps our students decide which profession they want to pursue and assess what additional preparation they may need.

Gallaudet University and our department does this by connecting students with employers who have longstanding internship and/or post-baccalaureate fellowship programs.

These experiences are made possible in part through the Career Center, the Department of Science, Technology, & Mathematics faculty connections with workplaces, or through a student's own initiative. Because they are external to Gallaudet, we cannot guarantee internship or fellowship placement for anyone. However, most of our students who have desired such placements have been able to obtain them.
