Common Time at Gallaudet
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:30-1:50pm
Implemented in Fall 2009, Common Time provides a regular period when faculty, staff, and students can participate in cross-unit events and meetings that do not conflict with class schedules. Though it is not possible to avoid scheduling graduate classes during all regular time slots, no undergraduate classes are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30-1:50 PM.
Goals of Common Time include:
1. Enhance community and a collegial climate at the University
2. Facilitate achievement of the Gallaudet Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan

Rules for Allocating Common Time Activities
Specific kinds of activities for Common Time are allocated on a monthly, recurring schedule:
- Tuesdays. The first Tuesday each month is reserved for a single, exclusive event for the entire community. No other meetings or events may be scheduled on First Tuesdays. To propose a 1st Tuesday event, email your idea to common.time@gallaudet.edu. On other Tuesdays, any event for students, faculty and/or staff which is related to at least one of the themes of the Gallaudet Strategic Plan can be offered. To schedule your event, contact Campus Activities or room.reservations@gallaudet.edu.
- Thursdays. The second Thursday of each month is reserved for meetings of departments and units. Meetings and events for students can be scheduled. The 3rdThursday each month is reserved for committees of the University Faculty, Student Body Government, and the Gallaudet Staff Council. Other meetings and events can take place only if their participants do not include members of committees on those three governance organizations. No special arrangements are required for scheduling meetings and events on these dates. Events are priviliged on Tuesdays, and meetings are priviliged on Thursdays.
Changes to Common Time in AY 2010-2011
In Spring 2010, The Academic Affairs Management Team appointed a Common Time Leadership Group to gather feedback from the campus community regarding its perceptions of Common Time and to propose changes for AY 2010-2011. The AAMT approved the recommendations from the Group. The recommendations and report can be viewed here. View the Common Time Schedule for Fall 2010 here.
