Technology Information
Gallaudet University offers its students a wealth of computer and technology resources for learning. The information below about your computer account, internet access, hardware and software specifications, and computer labs will be key to your success as a Gallaudet undergraduate student.
Computer Account
You will be given a Gallaudet user account, which you will use to access the technology resources provided by Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS). Resources include, but are not limited to Bison, Blackboard (a.k.a. my.gallaudet), e-mail, computer labs, and the Gallaudet network. Activation begins after Admissions Office accepts you for admission to Gallaudet. For set up and login instructions and what you need to do online before your arrival, read the "Gallaudet User Account" document.
Bison
Bison gives you access to your academic and financial information such as your student account balance, class schedule, registration, grades, and transcript history. You can access this site by going to http://bison.gallaudet.edu and logging in with your Gallaudet account. Read the Bison student tutorials for instructions on navigating through your Bison account.
Email
In addition to a Gallaudet user account, you are provided with a Gallaudet email address for use in corresponding with your professors, classmates, and University staff. As a Gallaudet student, you are expected to check your Gallaudet email on a daily basis and can do so by going to http://mail.gallaudet.edu and logging in with your Gallaudet account. Please be aware that all University communications and class-related information will be sent to your Gallaudet email account by default.
Blackboard (also known as my.gallaudet.edu)
Blackboard provides you with access to your online courses and materials. You can access this site by going to my.gallaudet.edu and logging in with your Gallaudet user account. This resource is used in more than 90% of Gallaudet courses to enhance your learning experience. There you will find your online course materials, upload assignments, take quizzes, store your documents, and create a personal e-portfolio as well as participate in online discussion forums.
Gallaudet Network
All Gallaudet buildings are equipped with wired network access and most are equipped with wireless (802.11b/g). In order to use the Gallaudet network, you must authenticate and pass appropriate security validation checks using Cisco Clean Access. More information about this process is posted here.
Computer Support
Gallaudet's computing resources include information on buying computers and obtaining technical support for computer equipment and software for work, school, or home.
In addition to this, Gallaudet University maintains a collection of standard software which includes both free and licensed software available for download.
You may also take advantage of our Microsoft Campus Agreement to purchase discounted Microsoft products for personal use.
Computer Labs
The University currently provides students with the use of two computer labs to access the internet, read email, utilize specific software programs, and print out papers. The Express Lab is located in the Hall Memorial Building (HMB), Room W121 and the Student Academic Center (SAC), Room 1100.
