Study Tours in Italy
Do you love pizza, pasta, art, architecture, and history? If so, you will be interested to know that the Department of Foreign Languages offers Gallaudet students a course named “Italian Studies” that leads to a summer study abroad program in Italy. This course has two components:
1. Orientation course:
In the spring semester, you will take an orientation course where you will learn about Italian history, literature, art, architecture, and culture in general. Students will do research on a specific architectural site or work of art.
2. Study abroad in Italy:
In the summer, the students will travel to Italy for two weeks and will visit the cities of Rome, Naples, Florence, and Venice.
From each city there will also be organized tours to adjacent towns, such as the old town of Pompei, near Naples, and the city of Siena, near Florence.
Visits to museums, famous churches, archaeological sites, and other places of cultural interest will be included. There, the students will have the chance to see the specific architectural sites and works of art that they researched in their orientation course, now in real life.
There will be opportunities to interact with the local deaf community, to taste the local cuisine, and to explore life in the city during your free time.
When the two-week program is over, you will have the choice to stay and tour either in Italy or Europe.
