English Language Institute Timetable

ELI Schedule

The ELI program provides two semesters of instruction, an early summer six-week session, and, depending on student needs, possibly a late summer six-week session.  The ELI program provides 20 to 25 hours of instruction per week during the semester.  For the summer programs, the ELI program provides 23 weekly hours of instruction per six-week session.  International ELI students are required to be enrolled for 18 hours of instruction to be considered active students by Homeland Security regulations.


Fall Semester
The fall semester begins in late August and ends in mid-December.  It consists of sixteen weeks with a Thanksgiving holiday break in mid or late November.

Spring Semester
The spring semester begins in mid to late January and ends in mid- May.  It consists of sixteen weeks with a week long Spring Break in mid-March.

Summer Sessions
The ELI program may elect to provide English Summer School in mid-May through June and a Developmental English program from July through mid-August, contingent on adequate enrollment.

August 12 Arrival Day
August 12-25 New Student Orientation
August 26 All dorms open at 10 a.m. for returning students
August 26-27 Business registration  (payment of tuition, room, and board)
August 27 Classes begin
August 27 Deadline to waive health insurance charges
August 28 Late Business registration begins  (Fee charged)
September 3 Labor Day holiday (no classes)
October 8 -12 Midterm week
November 2 Final payment for Fall 2012 charges due
November 19-23 Thanksgiving Holiday  (There will be no classes during that week;
    The University will still be open Monday-Wednesday.)
December 10 Classes End
December 11 Study Day
December 12-15 Qualifying Text Week
December 16 All dorms close at noon and Winter Break begins
Dec. 25 – Jan. 1 Winter Break  (The University will be closed)


Spring 2013 Semester

January 13 - Arrival Day
January 13-19 New Student Orientation
January 21 Martin Luther King Holiday (no classes)
January 21 All dorms open at 10 a.m. for returning students
January 22 Classes Begin

March 4 - 8 Midterm week
March 18-22 Spring Break
