Undergraduate Programs
Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
The Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department offers courses in five foreign languages: French, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish. The Department also offers courses in foreign literature in English translation as well as courses that examine how other cultures and languages have contributed to and changed our language and society. A series of co-curricular activities (lectures, museum visits, student exchanges, and clubs) is also promoted by the Department.
The Department offers a major and a minor in Spanish. Courses in Italian and Latin are also offered. Through the Self-Directed Major Program, students have the option of working closely with the Department to design a unique major course of study with a foreign languages or cultures emphasis.
If you're interested in foreign languages and other areas, such as business or science, a double major in a foreign language combined with another discipline is not only possible, but is encouraged regardless of whether you want to pursue higher education or employment.
Foreign Exchange
The department participates actively in the Foreign Studies Program and sponsors its own German Exchange Program. Study tours abroad are frequently planned and take place either during winter break or during summer session.
