Academic Contract

The purpose of an Academic Contract is to assist students who are no longer in good academic standing. (A student is in good academic standing when he/she maintains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better.) When students are placed on Academic Warning (AW) or Academic Probation (AP), they are required to meet with their academic/career advisor to design a contract that will help improve their grade point average for the following semester.

AW: A freshman student is placed on AW when the student's cumulative GPA falls between 1.75 and 1.99 at the end of any semester or summer term. (Students are considered freshmen until they have earned at least 25 degree credits.)

AP: A student is placed on AP when the student's cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of the semester or summer term. A freshman is placed on AP if the cumulative GPA falls below 1.75 for the first time or if a freshman has been previously placed on AW and his/her cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 for the second time.

Through the process of developing an Academic Contract, advisors encourage students to take advantange of various resources including the following:

1. Instructors/Professors

2. Tutorial and Instructional Programs (Math Works!, English Works!, study table, individual/group tutoring)

3. Mental Health Center (personal counseling)
