Minor Requirement

Requirements for a Minor in Dance

The minor in dance consists of a minimum of 15 credit hours with nine credits of core courses (THE 315, 325, and 435), four to six credits from an electives list and two credits of dance or movement courses.

Required dance core courses 9 hours

THE 315 History of Dance (3)
THE 325 Choreography (3)
THE 435 Dance Production (3)


Elective dance, physical education/recreation, and theatre courses 4 - 6 hours

Choose two or three courses:

THE 101 Visual Gestural Communication (3)
THE 110 Introduction to Theatre (3)
THE 201 Fundamentals of Body Movement (3)
PER 202 Fundamental Movement, Rhythms, and Gymnastics (2)
THE 401 Introduction to Dance Therapy (3)
THE 431 Sacred Dance (3)
THE 450 Field Experience in Dance (2)
THE 495 Special Topics (3)

Required dance or related activity courses 2 hours

Choose two courses:
PER 224 Activities* (1)
*Pilates, tap dance, beginning ballet, folk dance, ballroom dance, yoga, and hip-hop.

Total 15 - 17 hours
