What do I do if my child reaches the age limit for benefits?

Health Insurance

The age limit for children covered by the Federal Employee Health Benefits program is 22. Your child will be covered for 31 days following the date of his or her 22nd birthday. At this time, your child becomes eligible to participate in Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC). Your child has up to 60 days from his or her birthday to complete a health registration from to enroll in TCC. Forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, or in the main HRS Office, room 106.

University Dental Insurance

The age limit for dental insurance is 19, or 25 if unmarried and a full time student. Your child has up to 60 days from his or her birthday to enroll in dental insurance under COBRA.

The age limit for children covered by FEDVIP is 22. There is no provision for continuing coverage beyond the age limit.

Enrollment forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, or in the main HRS Office, room 106.

Life Insurance

FEGLI - The age limit for unmarried dependent children is 22. Your child has 31 days from his or her birthday to convert the child portion of your policy to an individual, direct-pay policy. Please see the Benefits Specialist in College Hall room 113 for the proper forms and mailing address.

University Life Insurance - The age limit for dependent children is 21 unless he or she is a full-time student or is incapable of self-support because of mental or physical disability that existed while insured under the policy. Your child has 31 days from his or her birthday to convert the child portion of your policy to an individual, direct-pay policy. Please see the Benefits Specialist in College Hall room 113 for the proper forms and mailing address.
