New Employee Orientation For Regular Status Staff
Orientation for new regular status staff employees is held the first Tuesday of each pay period. You should plan to meet in the HRS Office, College Hall room 106, at 8:30 a.m. Your supervisor can tell you when the pay period begins. You must enroll in most benefits within the first 30 days of employment; therefore, it is important that you attend orientation as soon as possible. You will also receive an employee ID card from the Department of Public Safety and will sign up for a parking permit, if needed.
If your classification is something other than regular status, you may not be eligible for benefits other than those prescribed by law, or your benefits may be limited. Please contact the Benefits Specialist on Ext. 5352 for information.
New Employee Orientation for University Faculty
Your dean or another representative of the division of Academic Affairs will notify you when and where your orientation will be held. A portion of this orientation will be about benefits. If you do not attend this orientation, please contact the Benefits Specialist on Ext. 5352 for a benefits package. You need to enroll in most benefits during the first 30 days of regular status employment, which for most faculty appointments begins August 16th.
New Employee Orientation for Teachers
The dean or another representative of the Clerc Center will notify you when and where your orientation will be held. A portion of this orientation will be about benefits. If you do not attend this orientation, please contact the Benefits Specialist on Ext. 5352 for a benefits package. You need to enroll in most benefits during the first 30 days of regular status employment.
Health Insurance
If you are a regular status employee, you have 30 days from your date of hire to enroll in one of the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) plans. There is no waiting period; enrollment is effective the first pay period after receipt of your enrollment form. The cost for health insurance is shared by you and the University. Plan booklets and enrollment forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113. Enrollment forms are also available in main HRS Office, room 106. If you do not enroll during the first 30 days, your next opportunity to enroll will be during open season.

University Dental Insurance
If you are a regular status employee, you have 30 days from your date of hire to enroll in a dental plan. The university offers two dental programs, one through a private insurer and the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). So carefully evaluate the plan information before making a selection. You may select only one. Plan booklets and enrollment forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, and in the main HRS Office, room 106.

Life Insurance
If you are a regular status employee, you have 30 days from your date of hire to enroll in a life insurance plan. There is no waiting period; enrollment is effective the first pay period after receipt of your enrollment form. The University offers two separate life insurance plans so carefully evaluate the plan information before making a selection. You may select only one. Plan booklets and enrollment forms are available in the Benefits Office, College Hall room 113, and in the main HRS Office, room 106.

Long-Term Disability
If you are a regular status employee, you are automatically covered by long-term disability insurance. There is no cost to you. Coverage is in effect after 30 days of active employment from your date of hire.
Tax Forms and I-9 Form
State and Federal tax forms and an I-9 form must be on file before you can receive your paycheck. You may fill these out during orientation or in the main HRS Office, College Hall room 106.
