Management and Units

Mr. Jon E. Mitchiner, Director

Information Technology Services (ITS) is a campus-wide resource supporting both the academic and administrative computing and telecommunications needs of the University. Important services include voice and data communications, wired and wireless networks, Internet access, electronic mail, and hardware maintenance for university-owned equipment. ITS operates the university's business computing systems using PeopleSoft applications. ITS has taken several steps to safeguard the integrity and security of its communications and computing infrastructure.

Units

Bison

Mr. Harvey Grossinger, Manager

The Bison Unit is responsible for Bison (PeopleSoft Student Administration) and PeopleSoft Financials. The unit provides the campus community with a Web-based system that manages its student information, records, academic advisement, and admissions data. Moreover, the unit provides and maintains the university's Financial Management System. These systems enable a collaborative campus by bringing all of the constituents together, including students, faculty, and staff.

Computer Support Services

Ms. Suzy McKenzie, Manager

The Computer Support Services (CSS) Unit is responsible for managing and troubleshooting computers, printers and software installations for university owned computer equipment. University owned computers that are on Gallaudet's domain will receive technical support from CSS and regular updates to the operating systems, software, and virus definitions. The CSS team also supports Gallaudet students by educating them on industry best practices for computer set-up, maintenance, repair, installations and troubleshooting procedures.

The CSS team provides computer support to both the Apple and Windows community. The team is composed of highly qualified employees that have certification with either Dell and/or Apple support.

Data Center

Ms. Suzy McKenzie, Manager

The Data Center Unit's primary role is to ensure smooth and efficient operations of all servers in the computer room which consists of web servers, network servers, and database servers.

This unit is responsible for ensuring that all currently enrolled students, employees, Board of Trustees members, and other individuals approved by the University Administration, in keeping with the rules of the University Administration and Operations Manual, are granted appropriate electronic accounts while affiliated with Gallaudet.

Electronic accounts include an email account and a campus domain account. The campus domain account allows users to access a variety of services on campus, such as Bison, PeopleSoft and network systems.

Network Operations and Telecommunications

Mr. Patrick Gorsuch, Manager

The Network Operations and Telecommunications (NetOps and Telecom) Unit is responsible for operating the Gallaudet wired and wireless network system, network security, Internet connectivity, Telephones services (including long distance services), central switchboard services.

The network security team is to support the mission of the university. This is accomplished by assuring that the data transmission infrastructure is secure from: 1) Unauthorized access, 2) Illegal or dangerous activites, and 3) Traffic that may harm the network or devices connected to it.

Network Operations and Telecommunications Unit is responsible for obtaining long distance telephone services for the campus at competitive rates and for ensuring that the cost of telephone services is fairly apportioned among the various campus departments.
