Responsible for the recruitment and retention of students through ongoing assessment and modification of long and short term financial aid strategies; oversees the administration of University and Federal financial aid programs including implementation of all related policies, procedures, goals and objectives; supervises all Financial Aid Office staff and all activities required to accomplish University goals related to the provision of student financial assistance; oversees the processing of financial aid applications; provides counseling related to financial aid policies, procedures, and other information to students, families, staff, and faculty; develops regular reports, analyses, and summaries required to meet federal, state, University, or other constituencies as needed; utilizes technology to enter, sort, analyze and apply relevant data; meets and consults regularly with immediate supervisor to keep supervisor current on trends, regulations, requirements, accomplishment of goals, issues, and/or concerns; ensures that the unit follows all current best practices in financial aid office operations, student programming, report writing, audit reviews, etc.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or appropriate related field of study with a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in a financial aid related position or Bachelor’s degree and at least five years experience as a Director or Assistant Director of a Financial Aid Office may be substituted for the Master’s degree if the candidate possesses advanced knowledge of all financial aid office practices and technologies. Knowledge of Federal and other higher education financial aid programs and of the regulations governing those programs. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, written report skills, personnel and budget management experience, and a thorough knowledge of financial aid programs, practices and policies should be demonstrated. Excellent analytic and organizational skills; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to function as a leader and a team-builder. Ability to use PeopleSoft or similar program. Prefer strong technology and technical skill experience. Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and maintain attention to details with the ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced, and time sensitive financial aid office operations. Sign language skills or the willingness to learn sign language required at the time of employment.
