Interpretation of ASLPI results

Question: My question is related to ASLPI results. Suppose I take the ASLPI and it is reported that I received a 2. Does that mean I got a 2.0? Or, suppose I take the ASLPI and receive a 2+. Does that mean I got a 2.5? Can you please explain how I should interpret the results?

Answer: I would be happy to explain. If you received a 2 on the ASLPI, that does not automatically equate to a 2.0. And, a 2+ does not equate to a 2.5. ASLPI proficiency levels have a range. Let’s look more closely at the range between proficiency levels 2 and 3. A (+) is awarded when skills exceed the midpoint. If you receive a 2+, your skills fall in the (+) range that begins at a designated place beyond the midpoint and up to the next proficiency level. If you receive a 2, your score falls somewhere in the range between the start of level 2 and just below the (+) range.

Proficiency levels 0-4 have a range (between 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5. Level 5 does not have a range.
