PST 651 Introduction to Professional Coaching (3 credits)
The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. In this introductory course on how to coach individuals, students learn primary distinctions; concepts and models that help coaches work effectively with individuals. In addition, potential coaches learn about the importance of working on the development of their professional coaching skills, and will be introduced to basic skills that can be expanded in successive courses or linked to certificate coaching programs in life or leadership.
PST 652 Coaching Development: Mindfulness and Presence (3 credits)
In the sequence of the Professional Coaching courses, this second online course is designed to continue individual development.
Using full body presence students will explore and tap into the wisdom in the mind/body/emotion connection. The course will provide the students with skills and knowledge to incorporate mindfulness, presence, and somatic coaching practices.
The course strives to create transformation learning through highly experiential components that focus on real-time coaching practice with consistent feedback and developmental plans.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive International Coach Federation coach specific training hours and be able to:
Recognize their own mindfulness and presence.
Identify at least 5 ways by which their presence influences their coaching.
Be able to analyze mindfulness and presence distinctions in their coaches.
Explain strategies for how to begin coaching mindfulness and presence in others
Use their own experience of transformation to explain how personal transformation occurs
Demonstrate their ability to reflect, notice, and self-correct their roles in coaching sessions.
Demonstrate core coaching skills, techniques, and ICF core competencies (Section B: Co-creating the relationship: (1) Establishing trust and intimacy with the client in their coaching process and (2) coaching presence; Section D: Facilitating learning and result: (1) Creating awareness.)
Create action-plans for further learning and development of effective coaching skills.
