Outcomes and Careers
Highlight of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Performance:
Department of Business (DOB) is committed to student-centered learning and education excellence. We regularly assess our student learning outcomes (SLO) and program effectiveness using a systematic approach and multiple measures including a standardized test, such as Major Field Test (MFT) in business, alumni surveys, internship supervisor surveys, Gallaudet University Office of Institution Research (GUOIR) data in addition to student class performance. Below are charts highlighting student learning outcomes and achievements as well as program effectiveness.
- Accounting and Business Administration Program 6-Year Graduation Rate: (data source: GUOIR)
According to US Department of Education at https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?131450-Gallaudet-University, the average 6-year graduation rate is 43% nationwide and 40% for Gallaudet University (GU). Hence, both DOB programs have been outperforming by a big margin by this measure.
- 5-Year Enrollment Trend: (data source: GUOIR)
- Retention Rate: (data source: GUOIR)
According to US Department of Education at https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?131450-Gallaudet-University, the average retention rate (students who return after their first year) is 67% nationwide and 69% for Gallaudet University (GU). Again, both DOB programs have been outperforming on average by this measure.
- Employment Rate based on GU annual alumni survey: (data source: GUOIR)
The annual alumni survey is conducted with students who graduated two years prior to the survey. Hence, data in 2011 came from the Alumni Survey of 2009 Graduates (December 2008 through August 2009); data in 2012 came from the Alumni Survey of 2010 Graduates (December 2009 through August 2010); so on and so forth.
- Internship Supervisor Evaluation Results on student work ethics, computer/technology skills, and communication and literacy skills (data source: GU Career Center Internship Supervisor Evaluation)
- Major Field Test (MFT) in Business (data source: ETS test reports)
Despite multiple SLO successes reported above, this is one learning outcome that DOB needs to work harder to improve. The department has been actively seeking solutions including tutoring, labs, study table, and test prep class in our effort to help students retain knowledge acquired throughout their length of study in the Accounting and Business Administration Programs. Stay tuned for further updates on this area as we make progress going forward!
