The CIO Division was formed in January 2010  to bring together all technology services on campus, along with integration of the University Library as an information resource.  Between 2007 and 2010, the University Library and Academic Technology had been integrated, as ATLAS Learning Services, under the Dean, Academic Technology, Library and Archive Services, within the Division of Academic Affairs.

In November 2012, the University Library returned to being a unit within the Division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Provost.  Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS) remains a separate division, reporting to the University President.  GTS serves both the University-Level and Clerc Center communities.

For information concerning the two units in the CIO Division from 2010 to 2012, use the links below:

The CIO Division leadership team in 2012 included the CIO, one Executive Director and two Directors:

  • Cindy King, CIO
  • Earl Parks, Executive Director, Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS)
  • Sarah Hamrick, Director, Library Public Services
  • Ulf Hedberg, Director, Library Deaf Collections and Archives

Our Mission Statements (provided for historical context)

The CIO Division supports the Gallaudet University community in the development and enhancement of information literacy and technological competence. We provide resources, services, and tools to support learning, teaching, scholarly and research activities, and the business processes of the Gallaudet community.

Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS)  provides essential resources, end-user training, and support for academic and administrative uses of technology at Gallaudet University - for the University and Clerc Center communities.  GTS provides instructional and technical support for Gallaudet's online learning and academic systems and is dedicated to enhancing the Gallaudet community's academic success through uses of technology.  GTS emphasizes the use of video technologies - both live and on demand - to facilitate learning and personal productivity.

GTS manages various enterprise information systems including the primary ERP (enterprise resource planning) administrative  system at Gallaudet - (Peoplesoft Campus Solutions, Human Resources, and Finances) and the student information system (Powerschool) for the Clerc Center.  GTS collaborates with functional offices that manage the data in the various systems we administer.

GTS manages the primary electronic communication systems, including email/calendaring, Gallaudet TV, and the voice phone network (and facilitates the work of Sorenson in maintaining the video phone network).  The Gallaudet network supports wired and wireless connections to a 300 Mbps Internet connection and a 100 Mbps Internet2 connection.  GTS manages network security and oversees information security for the campus.

GTS is committed to providing services that fulfill community needs and facilitate individual growth. GTS accomplishes this through customer satisfaction, open communication, reliable performance, accessible resources, and information security that are in alignment with established standards in Higher Education.

The University Library provides instructional, reference, and library collection services for the Gallaudet community, supporting uses of information resources and the development and enhancement of information literacy. The Library builds, maintains, and organizes the world's largest collection of deaf materials, as well as a collection of general materials, to support academic programs.

The Library Deaf Collections and University Archives preserves Gallaudet's unique educational, cultural, and historical heritage. Responsibilities include digitization, indexing, and accessibility of archival materials. The Archives also preserves the artifactual heritage of the Deaf community and provides services to researchers.
