The Center for of International Programs and Services (CIPS), a unit of the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Technologies (CLAST) is Gallaudet University's one-stop office for all things international. It is comprised of 3 sub-units, namely Global Education and Scholars Services (GESS), International Student Services (ISS) and the English Language Institute (ELI). CIPS work closely with other departments and units of the University to promote, support, and develop a wide range of international and intercultural educational opportunities supporting teaching, learning, research, and engagement.
The English Language Institute provides comprehensive immersion programs in English as a Second Language to international as well as a few American students. American Sign Language (ASL) and cultural studies courses are also offered, enabling students to gain proficiency in English and ASL in order to qualify for, and thrive after, admission to Gallaudet or other U.S. universities.
The Global Education and Scholar Services offers a broad range of services and activities for students, faculty and professionals at Gallaudet University seeking to maximize or enhance their learning and expertise through the provision of qualitative opportunities to apply their knowledge internationally. Additionally, there are various opportunities for visiting students, scholars, researchers and professionals who are interested in coming to Gallaudet University for an array of short- and long- term programs. GESS also works in cooperation with other departments and units of the University, and outside sponsoring agencies to ensure that all current J-1 International students and scholars are in compliance with current Immigration regulations.
The International Student Services has the responsibility of maintaining the University's compliance with SEVIS for F-1 students. ISS works in cooperation with other departments and units of the University to ensure that all current F-1 international students are in compliance with current Immigration regulations. ISS works closely with students to update them on current regulations, take them through Immigration status change or maintenance procedures, and performs other advisory functions relevant to the maintenance or reinstatement of their immigration status.
