Educating Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing: A Guide for Professionals in General Education Settings is an online, three-module resource that is designed to equip general education professionals (grades K-12) with the knowledge and skills they need for working with deaf and hard of hearing students in the classroom or school environment. Developed in a collaboration between the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and the Texas Education Service Center 20, this resource allows users to view topics of interest or to complete the modules in their entirety.

86%  of the nation’s approximately 2.5 million deaf and hard of hearing children are educated in general education settings.

This resource will help you to do the following:

  • prepare for having deaf and hard of hearing children in your classroom
  • include the principles behind educational planning and use them within the classroom or school
  • understand how laws governing educational services for deaf and hard of hearing children support your work
  • incorporate evidence-based practices to better prepare for and work with deaf and hard of hearing children within your classroom or school
