2013 Odyssey call for submissions
All too often deaf and hard of hearing students do not have access to all the educational services they need. For the 2013 issue of the Clerc Center's Odyssey magazine, we are focusing on the theme of "Accessing Appropriate Special Education and Related Services--Successes, Challenges, and Stories."
We want to know how you--parents and education professionals--have advocated for support for a child to meet his or her needs as appropriate related to his or her Individualized Education Program (IEP). What were the challenges you encountered, what kinds of strategies did you use, and how did you achieve your goals?
We are particularly interested in articles about the experiences of meeting the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from traditionally underserved groups, including those students who:
- are lower achieving academically
- come from families that speak a language other than English in the home
- are members of diverse racial or cultural groups
- are from rural areas
- have secondary disabilities
Please e-mail article ideas to the Odyssey managing editor at Catherine.Valcourt-Pearce@gallaudet.edu by October 1, 2012. Fully developed articles are due November 1, 2012.
