MSSD Hosts College and Career Fair in September
On September 25, MSSD hosted a College and Career Fair for its junior and senior students. The morning program included presentations from college recruiters, representatives from the Maryland and Virginia offices of vocational rehabilitation, and representatives from the federal program Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). Karen Sheffer, from Gallaudet University; John Reid, from the Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf; and Sharon Murphy, from the Northern Virginia Community College, shared information on their respective college programs, academic and major choices, and overall programs. Justin Shaw, from Gallaudet’s Financial Aid Office, discussed FAFSA and other scholarship programs for college.
Following the presentations, students had the opportunity to stop at information tables set up in the MSSD lobby where they could ask the morning presenters questions and pick up literature related to applications, other area community colleges, VR support, and financial aid. The event was intended to broaden MSSD students’ options upon their graduation.
The Clerc Center appreciates the efforts of each person who contributed to the success of this fair.
