What is the difference between Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?

There are many areas of overlap between these two laws. Both are designed to protect against discrimination based on disability, and both use the same definition of eligibility. Rights, procedures, and remedies under both laws are the same. However, Section 504 applies only to recipients of Federal financial assistance, while the ADA applies to entities that don't necessarily receive such assistance. A comparison of Section 504, the ADA, and IDEA can be found at http://www.dredf.org/advocacy/comparison.html.
