Literacy at the Clerc Center

Literacy development in deaf and hard of hearing children is a top priority at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center.

The Clerc Center offers literacy-related training opportunities and programs that support families and professionals working with deaf and hard of hearing children across the nation.

  • The Shared Reading Project teaches parents and caregivers how to read to their deaf and hard of hearing children using American Sign Language.
  • Literacy: It All Connects is a collection of nine practices that create a comprehensive approach to literacy learning.
  • Training workshops in literacy and language development are available from the Clerc Center.
