Visual Phonics Workshop

See the Sound: Visual Phonics Workshop
For Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Reading Specialists
(One- or two-day workshop)

This workshop is designed for people interested in learning a system that utilizes a combination of tactile, kinesthetic, visual, and auditory feedback to assist in developing phonemic awareness, speech production, and reading skills with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Visual Phonics represents one part of a comprehensive reading and language program. It is a multisensory approach to learning. It provides an excellent way to help students who are deaf, learning disabled, developmentally delayed, and speech impaired “see” and internalize English phonemes and understand how they map onto English letters and words.

Participants will:

  • Understand the development, components, research, and educational implications of Visual Phonics
  • Identify and produce Visual Phonics hand cues and written symbols
  • Learn strategies to integrate Visual Phonics into reading, spelling, writing, and speech/language activities
