KDES Students Team Up with Doubletree to Honor Arbor Day
Representatives from the Doubletree Hotels "Teaching Kids to Care" program partnered with students and teachers from the Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) to celebrate Earth and Arbor Day on April 30. The theme for this year's Doubletree initiative is "Love Your Trees. Love Your Community. Love Your Earth." Information was shared about two important environmental events-Earth Day on April 22 and National Arbor Day on April 30.
The KDES students entertained the Doubletree reps with original poems entitled "Earth Party" and "Tree and Earth Musings," and skits illustrating the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle concept. The students and the representatives from Doubletree worked together to plant blue spruce seedlings throughout the area surrounding the playground at the rear of the KDES building.
"We really enjoy our partnership with the Kendall students. We also worked with the students last fall on a joint food drive for Capital Area Food Bank," said Faith Grant from Doubletree.
Doubletree started Teaching Kids to Care as a unique adopt-a-school program that has shown more than 200 communities that when we all work together, our individual caring effort for our communities can make a meaningful difference to our world.
