MSSD Performing Arts Season Features Classics


The MSSD Performing Arts Program staff cordially invites you to come and enjoy this year's productions!

All performances will be held at Theatre Malz at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf located on the campus of Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20002.

Fall Showcase: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Directed by Tami Santimyer

A young girl named Alice falls down a rabbit hole into a world populated by peculiar creatures where nonsense rules the day. Come and join Alice on her fantastic journey into Wonderland! Written by Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is one of the most beloved stories of a childhood adventure ever written. The MSSD performance is sure to please audience members of all ages.

MSSD's 30th Winter Dance Concert, DANCE-tastic

In 2012 MSSD's Performing Arts Program will celebrate 30 years of bringing together outstanding deaf and hard of hearing dancers-both MSSD students and professionals-to perform in its annual concert. Throughout the years, we have watched with delight those alumni who have returned to the Theatre Malz in new roles as professional dancers and choreographers. We have forged many dance partnerships with dance and school companies who have entertained audiences with dances from Asia, Africa, South and Central America, Europe, and the United States. In celebration of those amazing years, we bring you DANCE-tastic!

Spring Play: Guys and Dolls

Directed by Michelle Banks

Set in New York City, the world of Guys and Dolls is populated by a motley crew of eccentrics, non-conformists, Salvation Army do-gooders, gamblers, night club entertainers, and various categories of low-lifes. The play explores the strange impulses and unique motivations governing the lives of some of the city's more picturesque characters as well as the development of some quirky romances.

Students in middle school or high school and adults will enjoy stepping into the world of Guys and Dolls when it comes to the stage of MSSD's Theatre Malz.
